Destiny 2 goes Free to Play, Shadowkeep Expansion and Cross Save

Bungie came forth today to announce the biggest bit of news regarding Destiny as a whole. There will be a free version of Destiny 2 called “New Light”. Cross Saving will be coming with Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC (Steam) and Google Stadia!

First: Shadowkeep is real

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep will probably considered to be Destiny 4 after Destiny 2 Forsaken already reworked everything that Destiny 2 started out with, being a sub-Destiny 3 game in that sense. We’ll see all the old Destiny 1 strike bosses make a comeback, including Eris Morn with a brand new storyline, more strikes and content then ever and a new raid: The Black Garden! Coming out on September 17th, the game will be available on PS4, Xbox One and Steam (not Battle.net).

Destiny 2 on PC moves to Steam

The epic partner that Bungie partnered up with is indeed not the Epic Game Store but it’s just good ol’ Steam. Launching there with either Destiny 2 Shadowkeep alone or as a Digital Deluxe Edition with Destiny 2 Shadowkeep and everything from Destiny 2 before Shadowkeep (vanilla, Osiris DLC, Warmind DLC, Forsaken Expansion, Season Pass Content).

UPDATE: Also confirmed on the Bungie blog, you don’t need to rebuy Destiny 2 on Steam as your Battle.net purchases will be transferred over as well! Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/47882

This was revealed alongside a massive update to how weapon modifying will work and how your guardians will play in the future. There will be special finishing moves for each subclass and the most important thing, there won’t be any exclusive to just one plattform content anymore!

Free to play Destiny 2 with Cross Save

Destiny 2 will launch with a new free to play version that will limit you to the content of Destiny 2 base game and the full year one content, but it will still allow you to play together with friends in strikes, raids (the first vanilla raid including the mini-raids) and of course in PvP! This version will support also Cross-Saving. Cross saving was leaked yesterday already, but until yesterday Sony wasn’t listed yet as being open to that functionality. Now we know that you can cross save between your characters from PS4, Xbox One, PC (Steam) and later also on Google Stadia when it launches in November 2019!

Where is Destiny 3?

This question wasn’t fully answered yet, but it was surely answered as an: we don’t know yet ourselves over than that Bungie wants to make Destiny as a whole a very good experience for everyone. Lowering the requirements of entering the game from any platform you want, plus making bundle deals, cross saving between any platform and more a reality. There will be seasonal content available for Destiny 2 Year 3 Shadowkeep, but instead of locking you down to an annual pass you can actually pick and chose which season you want to participate in by buying each season pass individually for a lower price than the annual pass.

Collector’s edition with physical add ins

Before we forget to mention it, here is also detailed what you can preorder right now on Bungie’s very own store if you want to buy the Destiny 2 Shadowkeep collector’s edition. The collector’s edition comes with the game inside or you can also just pick the physical items without any game code attached to it, if you want to get Destiny 2 Shadowkeep by other means (like getting Google Stadia Founders pack which includes the full Destiny 2 experience at launch). The collector’s edition with game will cost you €159 or without the game code only €94,99. The digital game code and the digital audio soundtrack for Destiny 2 Shadowkeep will be send out via E-mail before the release date so you will definitely be able to join the game when it releases without risking a delay because of delivery complications that my occur.
