the Original Devil May Cry will come to Nintendo Switch

Cue the “it’s happening” gif because Capcom finally announced what many Super Smash Bros players have been waiting for. Why exactly? Well first because Capcom finally announced that Devil May Cry is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer. We don’t know any more details than that yet. There is the speculation currently going around that it may be a rip from the HD collection or a direct port from the original release. Both could be done in theory.

How Remasters/Remakes make Smash fighters

Why the Smash Bros community could love this news is simply because while the request to put a famous non Nintendo IP character like Dante in Super Smash Bros, it was always considered to be a necessity to appear with a mainline title first on one of the main Nintendo consoles to have a chance of an appearance in the Smash Bros game. The same thing worked out for Solid Snake quite well after his debut title on the Playstation “Metal Gear Solid” was remade in the engine of Metal Gear Solid 2 for the Nintendo Gamecube with the new title “Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes”, featuring completely new cutscenes and dialog recordings for the best new experience of the ’98 title.

Could Dante be also in Smash Bros soon?

On February 7th, Hidaki Itsuno held an interview with VG247 (here) to talk about possible new Super Smash Bros fighters. One of these of course are Bayonetta and Dante from the Devil May Cry series. At that time, Itsuno only said so much as that “Well, that’s the thing. Devil May Cry has never been on a Nintendo platform. So it seems like the first thing to do would be to get Capcom to put Devil May Cry on a Nintendo platform in some way, shape or form – whatever game that might be,” he concludes. The basic idea was that if fans had the demand, Capcom would do a port of a Devil May Cry game on the nintendo Switch which may open up discussions for a character introduction to the Super Smash Bros roster.
