Two Point Studios, the developers of Two Point Hospital, the rather fun hospital simulation, have been acquired by Sega. The news broke today (9/5/2019) that the Japanese multinational video game developer and publisher was going to acquire the young British videogame developer, Two Point Studios.
Two Point Studios already has lots of ties to Sega
The most recent game that Two Point Studios had developed is Two Point Hospital, a game set in a fictional County area, based on running hospitals and making money out of poorly patients. Interestingly, the game was published by Sega Europe, taking the business relationship back to 2017 when Two Point Studios joined Sega Europe’s Searchlight programme.
Two Point amongst giants
The deal will include some of projects that the studios are developing and will acquire any further plans for new game releases in the future. They will be absorbed into the Sega Empire, alongside other developer companies: Sports Interactive, Relic Entertainment, and Creative Assembly.
The deal was long coming
“We’re delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the SEGA family. As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at SEGA Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential.” – said Gary Dale, President/COO for SEGA Europe Ltd.
What do you think about this news? The license to Two Point Hospital was already owned by Sega themself, now having the developers on their own paycheck will maybe lead the way to more DLC a even a fully fledged sequel.
