Today Bigben and KT Racing released a new trailer for WRC 8, which will be released this September 2019 on PS4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch and of course on PC. Bigben wanted to take the feedback of the community to heart and Benoit Gomes, the game’s Lead Game Designer, explores the unique features and depth of this mode in detail in this video.
As per usual, the WRC career mode has you progress from season to season to compete in the WRC category and ultimately become world champion. But this time, the racers have to excel in three specific categories to fully beomce a champion:
- Planning the calendar to decide which events to do in between rallies: training, manufacturer challenges, rest, classic events, etc.
- Managing a whole crew comprising six different and interconnected job roles. Players must consider each of their unique characteristics and use them strategically in each rally.
- Upgrading the crew through R&D and a skill tree, which evolves depending on player choices. Every decision has an impact on progression and on the morale of the crew (performance, reliability, etc.).
Some of the key features of WRC 8 are extreme and dynamic weather conditions, 52 teams, 14 countries, over 100 special stages, weekly challenges and an eSports mode even. I don’t know how exactly an E-Sports mode works for a racing game like this, but it sure sounds promising. Let’s hope this ain’t one of the buzzword titles that won’t lead to actual content in the end.
